Week 29 January 31, 2007

Hey!

I’m so glad to hear that you guys are having so much fun. I will love to see the pictures that you send. This week I’ve thought about you guys and all the stuff you’re doing. Don’t worry it didn’t make me too homesick. We definitely have to do something like that when I get home.

This week we were able to teach some really cool people. The area that I’m in has some really amazing people but the problem is that they won’t go to church. If they would go to church then we would be able to baptize most of them. We’ll continue working on that.

Well I just got back from a Churrasco so that’s while I’m late in writing you guys. One of the elders had a birthday so we made a churrasco for him. The meat was really good but we didn’t have enough silverware or plates so most of us just ate with our hands. When we were there we were all talking and got on the subject of parasites. One of the elders told me that he sees some parasite worms crawling in his bathroom. I went and looked in his bathroom and realized that I see those same worms everyday in our bathroom at our apartment. These are the ones that can crawl through your skin so that’s why it’s so important to wear sandals in the shower. Also there is rule in Brazil that’s pretty gross. There are some parasites that crawl out of your mouth after they get big enough (about a foot or so). If they start crawling out you have to just wait till it crawls out on its own pace. If you pull it and it’s attached to your intestines still it can cause serious damage. The elder just told us that our chances are a lot lower because we take these pills every 6 months but I still haven’t taken these pills that they were talking about so hopefully I get them soon. I drink a lot of water from the tap from members and even at our apartment when we don’t have any mineral water.

Well sorry I went on a tangent about parasites. I was pretty grossed out. My companion and I are doing really great. We still haven’t gotten in any fights. I’m the only one that does the dishes but it’s not that big of deal. I’ve been too used to having mom usually do them. A few days ago when I took out the garbage a big swarm of flies came out from the bottom of the can and then I saw a pile full of maggots in the garbage can. Our apartment is usually pretty clean and we take out our garbage can regularly but I guess not regularly enough.

I got a letter from The Hodgkinson’s which was nice. I’ve had a lot of letters from family and friends that I need to respond to still. I have a lot of letters to write to people.

How long will you two stay in Hawaii? I don’t know if you’ll be home by next p-day. I’m sending this to both of you because I don’t have a lot of time left before P-day ends.

I hope that you guys have a great trip. When I told my friends here you guys are in Hawaii they all got really jealous. It must be so cool to go whale watching and in a submarine and be able to have your own private beach. Have a lot of fun and I’ll talk to you both next week.

I love you BOTH infinity!!
Elder Fowler
